Christian Frigerio was 23 years old when he
went missing on the 14th of November 1996 in Carugate, Milan in
Italy.
According to the doe network, Frigerio
called his brother from work at a construction site and warned him not to leave
the house. He left work at 6pm as usual, but according to his employer he
seemed concerned and worried. Despite the rain, he began to bike back home and
was never seen again.
Frigerio’s mother claims that he disappeared
at the hands of a cult she believed he was involved in, a cult by the name of “Bestie
di Satana”. She said she noticed that he had bite makes, scratches and burns on
his body around the time of his disappearance and believes that he was murdered
and buried
Bestie di Satana or “the Beasts of Satan”
were an Italian metal band in the nineties. They are also referred to as a “satanic” cult
and were responsible for the murders of 3 known victims.
One
of the group’s leaders, Nicola Sapone, was charged for his part in the sacrificial
slayings for the double homicide of sixteen year old Fabio Tollis and his girlfriend
19 year old Chiara Marino in 1998. Apparently it was a ritual killing out in
the woods involving sex and heavy drug use and other characteristics of so-called
acid Satanism.
The Guardian reported that Tollis may have
been bludgeoned with a hammer while trying to help Marino, who was stabbed to
death. Later, fellow member and friend
of Fabio Tollis, Mario Maccione, a self-proclaimed ‘medium’, would admit to
being the person behind the hammer.
Tollis’ father had received a call that
night from his son, who was out drinking at “The midnight bar”; a rock bar in
Milan where like-minded metal fans gathered at on weekends to listen to music.
In the call, Tollis told his father that he wouldn’t be coming home and would
stay with his girlfriend that night. The call was unusual enough that the
concerned parent showed up at the bar to check on his son- by the time he got
there, Tollis was nowhere to found. His son would never return home again and
was buried in the woods, where Nicola Sapone, Mario Maccione and Andrea Volpe
were so delighted with their work that they were dancing on the makeshift grave
in the woods, in the small town of Somma Lombardo.
Fabio Tollis’ father rejected claims that
the couple had ran off together and continued to independently investigate.
In 2004 27 year old Mariangela Pezzotta (A former girlfriend of Beasts of Satan member,
Andrea Volpe) was shot after the breakup.
The group believed that she knew too much about their unsavory
pastimes and decided that it was in their interest to eliminate her.
Volpe
was sent to do the job and invited Pezzotta out under false pretences. The gunshot
was non-fatal and after a panicked phone call to ring leader Nicola Sapone the
girl was beaten over the head with a spade and buried alive.
Volpe and his teenage girlfriend were later
discovered by police in Pezzotta’s crashed vehicle.
They had attempted to destroy the evidence
but totalled the car under the influence of cocaine and heroin. They were both
addicts- apparently a common theme for members of the Beasts of Satan.
It was said that members of the Beasts of
Satan were required to swear in and make a blood pact, preventing them from
leaving. To leave would equal death. Andrea Bontade, the drummer of the band,
was found dead in his crashed car after consuming excessive amounts of alcohol.
Investigators entertain the idea that he was pressured to commit suicide for
not involving himself in the murder of his bandmate, Fabio Tollis and Chiara
Marino.
This was originally just going to be a write up on Nancy Lynn Jason but I just couldn't help dropping in some more information (for context/background sake) on the Divine light mission.
This site has so much info if you want to read more about it- I was on there for an hour, actually.
Also, the doctor you'll see mentioned near the end of the post is pretty sketchy.
I do hope Nancy just took off and lived safely and happily off the radar or something.
Here we go.
Then eighteen year old
Nancy Lynn Jason was last seen on the 20th of July 1977 in Bethesda,
Maryland.
Nancy was a “Premie”,
a member of a religious group called “Divine Light Mission” which was founded
in India in the sixties by leader Shri Hans Ji Maharaj.
The Western sect of the
group is classed by many as a cult.
Maharaja’s youngest son,
Guru Maharaj Ji (later Prem Rawat) brought the Divine light mission to the west
against his families wishes, spreading branches
of the DLM across the US, England and other countries in Europe. Eventually the
family split in anger and took control of the Indian branch, leaving the entitled and self proclaimed "perfect master" and teenage, Guru
Maharaj Ji, with his own faction in the west.
As a result of the feud, he began
to erase the Indian origins of the religion from his western version of the
DLM, and shut down the centers and churches he had built with his family.
His marriage
to a 24 year old western airline hostess who he dubbed a real Goddess (apparently
he previously preached celibacy) and his shift in belief and image (from
traditional clothing to business suits) caused an unfixable grudge between
himself and his family.
The turmoil and controversy inspired a massive drop in the number of members;
almost 80% of American Premies were lost by the late seventies.
Previous
members spoke of being harassed into donating cash- sometimes large sums of
savings (much to the protest of their families) and other times a dollar to be paid on a daily basis. Many working
Premies donated large chunks of their monthly salary to the centers.
Meditation
was a big part of being a member, there was to be no smoking, no alcohol, no
sex, no violence and no eating meat.
It's believed that Nancy lived at one of
the premie houses; it was a house specifically intended to one day becomes a "divine
medical school".
Nancy was epileptic, and the onsite premie doctor, a man named Robert
Hallowitz, was allegedly treating her condition.
According to some sources Hallowitz believed
that meditation was the key to controlling one’s mind (via the Pineal gland) and
believed that, Prem Rawat, his young teenage leader, was some kind of omnipotent
Supreme Being.
He was not the only
doctor to worship at the feet of Maharaj Ji- his
partner at the " medical house” Dr. John Horton was also a true believer
in his leader.
So brainwashed they were
that even when the “perfect master” was hospitalized with an ulcer and deemed
overweight and unhealthy, his devotees concocted theories and reasons as to
why. “His physical body is just like ours, but his soul is perfect” being one
example.
Despite Rawat’s
teachings that meditation was a cure all no matter what a person was suffering,
his own health issues contradicted his teachings. The perfect leader was hospitalized
for his ill health and his body was described as damaged by stress and obesity.
So much for his healthy diet.
Nancy was planning to go
to a DLM meeting in Florida at the time she went missing.
Apparently she was
last seen collecting medication at her place. As with a lot of young people in
the seventies she was known to get around by hitchhiking- However she neglected
to take the clothes she had laid out, a camera and cash that she had packed for
the trip.
"The investigation began March 15 when a woman called the board alleging that she'd had sex with Dr. Hallowitz for four years as part of her treatment for chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome. They met up to three times a week for lunchtime sex and to smoke marijuana or hashish, she said. The woman, Patient A, said Dr. Hallowitz warned her that "those that 'turned from him' would not regain their health," according to the board's report. She allegedly ended the relationship in October, 1990. Since then, the report says, she has attempted suicide twice."
"Patient E, according to the doctor's medical records, consulted him for symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome for a month in 1987. The woman said Dr. Hallowitz talked about a group he'd like her to join, saying he had a secret mission "bigger than the CIA," the report says.Dr. Hallowitz also reportedly "told her stories about people who had displeased him meeting untimely deaths."
This is a age progression picture of what Nancy could look like now.

I know I'm constantly going back to old posts and updating them, but in this case I've decided to give my look at the Elisa Lam case a whole new post of it's own.
I don't know why exactly I always think back to this one, I suppose it's a pretty modern case and Elisa had an online presence with accounts that are still up, and just browsing through them just brings her to life.
Anyways, since there's always mixed comments about this case I thought I'd look for every piece of information I could possibly find (given the spare time I have today) and give the old post an overhaul.
Grab your ice tea, it's gonna be a long one.
“Fear of death is very silly to me. I am
reassured that death is something that all things before me and all things
after me will go through. When it comes, I will know what it is. I just hope
for a chance to say my goodbyes. I am more scared of going before my time,
without having lived a full and meaningful life.”
Built in the 1920’s, the Cecil hotel is a
budget hotel located in downtown LA on 640 S. Main Street with 600 rooms and
grim, dark past.
You may know it as Richard Ramirez’ old
haunt back in ’85. Ramirez used to
pay $14 per night and reportedly killed in the local area during his stays
there.
Maybe you’ve heard the rumour about unsolved
murder victim Elizabeth Short in 1947- known in the media as “the Black Dahlia”
murder. She was thought have been hanging out in the hotel bar before her
disappearance and subsequent murder and was later found dead in Leimert Park,
LA; her face mutilated into a Chelsea smile and her body drained of all blood.
Maybe it’s Austrian serial killer Jack unterweger’s stay at the Cecil in the 1991 that
rings a bell? Underwerger was responsible for the murders of three sex workers,
Sherri Ann Long, Shannon Exley and Irene Rodriguez. He assaulted, abused and murdered
them- strangling them with their own bra’s. Unterweger was actually
a crime journalist (with a record of his own), who was paying homage to Ramirez.
The hotel gained more attention in 2015 due
to the plot of the “American
Horror Story” series “Hotel” being loosely based on the building. But
most likely, you’ve heard of this hotel since the story of the death of 21 year
old Canadian tourist Elisa Lam in 2013.
You've most likely watched the footage of her acting strangely in an elevator before going missing and being found dead.
On the 19th of February 2013, in what many
considered to be true horror movie style, (some say reminiscent of a scene in the
Japanese 2002 horror movie “Dark Water”) Lam was found dead at the bottom of one of the
hotels water tanks located on the roof, with (according to the media) “no
explanation of how she had even gotten in there in the first place.”
News outlets and online reports suggested
that it would have been impossible for Lam to get access to the roof of the hotel,
possibly to add to the creepy-spin they were putting on their stories; however
later discussions online from actual guests indicated that it was much easier
than the reports were letting on.
Updates on a reddit thread, however, by user rockdrigoma pointed out in a discussion on the
subject that from this google maps view (toggle around), we can see a security
rail behind the water tanks, which could be easily used as a makeshift ladder.
In this photo from a Chinese website you can see alternative forms of access.
Although it was discussed that there surely
would be an alarm system connected to the “staff only” door that lead to the
roof, a websleuths user named “smeinzer” claimed to have stayed there and
accessed the roof with his brother to take photos at the same time Elisa was
there, and there was no alarm. (The user verified his claims by providing a
receipt of his stay which you can view
on the thread)
“It is easy. I am a photographer and my
brother and I went up onto the roof on the night of the 5th to see how the
vantage point of the skyline was from there (not that great by the way). And
yes... We shouldn't have been there, I know that, but we were and it was easy.
There is a window that was open on the 15th floor that allowed access to the
fire escape and was just a quick climb up a short ladder and there we were on
the roof, and now we know that we were probably only a few feet from Elisa's
body at one point. Pretty creepy...”
He also mentions in his forum post that one
of the elevators was not in service. A brief search online will turn up other
guests of the Cecil complaining about malfunctioning lifts.
“The opening at the top of the water tank
where Elisa was found was not small. Me and Brandon found we could each easily
fit through the opening. Perhaps a very obese person may not fit through - but
otherwise, any normally-sized person (even one who is slightly plump in
appearance) would probably fit through that opening easily. Even if Elisa had
been murdered first before her body was disposed in the tank, it would be
possible to fit her body through the tank easily.”
They mention a wooden ladder propped up
against the tank Elisa was found in that appeared as if it had not been moved
for a long period of time.
The previous guest even talks about the graffiti
found up on the roof- an indication that many people had ventured up there without
problem.
Another noteworthy observation from guests
is how sketchy the hotel and surrounding area is in general, despite
being advertised as hip or boutique. Drop by a rating website or read a few
blog posts by those that have stayed there and it won’t take you long to find
similar comments about the area. “Don’t stay there alone if you’re a girl” one
post warns.
(source) Not everyone has had a bad experience, of course, but most guests
do not seem to enjoy their stay and vow to never return again.
It took a few months for Elisa Lam’s
autopsy report to be released publicly.
As stated in the report, Lam had been
diagnosed as bi-polar. I managed to find a report of Lam’s autopsy online which you can view here.
Her behaviour in the hotel CCTV footage could
be due to the possibility that the Canadian tourist was having an acute manic or
mixed episode. During an episode, it is not unheard of for some individuals
with bipolar disorder to feel confusion and paranoia, or have delusions and
visual/auditory hallucinations.
“…judgement can be significantly impaired
and overactivity and irritablity highly problematic. The individual is at risk
of behaviour which they may significantly regret later on such as spending or
sexual indiscretions that they would never normally consider. In some people,
there may even be uncharacteristic and unpredictable violent behaviour. Also
some individuals with mania will have psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations
or delusions which may put them or others at risk. For all of these reasons,
one of the first decisions to be made is about whether hospitalisation is
required. Many individuals with anything more than mild mania may require
hospitalisation for at least a short period of time until treatment is
established and symptoms are brought under control.”
Not every individual with bi-polar disorder
is the same, and not every treatment is the same for each person. It can often
take time, trial and error regarding what combination of medicine an individual
needs. Often a medication intended to manage the symptoms of bipolar disorder can actually
induce episodes of mania- an indication that the individual should be
prescribed an alternative medication. Continued use of the wrong prescription can
cause reoccurring episodes.
The full video can be watched here and of
course there are many more online. [X]
In another post on Reddit, a redditor who
claimed to be a close friend of Elisa Lam gave this insight:
“I don’t know exactly what kind of mental
problems she had, but I and her close friends know that she had some strange
episodes before ( and she has disappeared before too). However, her family was
always reluctant to talk about her problems like in this case when they refused
to release any information regarding her mental problems. Once we found out
that she was going though some therapy for 3 weeks and she has regular
depressions. I didn’t talk to her for a year so I didn’t know why she was going
to LA. I suspect it is connected to schizophrenia or some mental problems
rather than recreation drug use. She was traveling alone and it is suspicious
too…”
Elisa herself talked about her mental
health on her tumblr blog in the “life” tag, giving
readers small windows into how she felt and what she was dealing with.
Some websites claim that Elisa continued posting in her blog after her death, however she probably just had a queue that posted to schedule, which is a feature on the tumblr blogging site.
“Bit terrified right now. My heart rate is
going pretty damn fast. Today, if I took a walk or ran for the bus or went up a
flight of stairs, I would be out of breath. Not to mention I was incredibly
irritated for no reason. It feels as though I’m having trouble breathing. I
sincerely hope it’s not the adderall but it most likely it is. However, I took
that 6 hours ago and only now is my heart skyrocketing? Is it because I had
some green tea and now the caffeine is mixing with the adderall causing my
heart to want to leap out of my chest? Not to mention my hands tremor and I
have absolutely not appetite (I don’t think I’ve had 3 meals a day for months)
due to the anti-depressants. Or is this because I’m not eating enough? Yay
side-effects.”
“Not good. Have been sleeping and avoiding
any remote resemblance of human responsibility since last wednesday. Have not
worked on paper, haven’t tried to see doctor, haven’t spoken with friends,
haven’t left the house.”
She loved to read, watch films, was a Harry
Potter fan, loved fashion and was excited about her upcoming trip along the west
coast. Unfortunately she wouldn’t make it past Los Angeles.
When questioned by investigators Lam’s
sister stated that Elisa was taking Wellbutrin (an antidepressant) ,
Lamotrigine (used to treat bi-polar type 1) , Quetiapine (an atypical
antipsychotic usually prescribed to treat schizophrenia or bipolar disorder)
and one more medication that cannot be recalled.
Maintenance workers found Elisa’s body 19
days after the death after guests of the hotel complained about low water
pressure; and the bad tasting and discoloured water, which probably made
sense after they saw the news reports.
Her death was ruled as a drowning with no
trauma to the body.
She, reportedly, had not been assaulted in any way and
the report ruled it an accidental death, possibly linked to Lam’s mental health
issues and being in a manic / mixed state.
“The decedent died as a result of drowning. A complete autopsy examination showed no evidence of trauma and toxicology studies did not show acute drug or alcohol intoxication. Decedent had a history of bipolar disorder for which she was prescribed medication. Toxicology studies were performed for the presence of these drugs. However, quantitation in the blood was not performed due to limited sample availability. Therefore, interpretation is limited. Police investigation did not show evidence of foul play. A full review of the circumstances of the case and appropriate consultation do not support intent to harm oneself. The manner of death is classified as accident.” (From the report)
Lam was found naked in the water tank, but I was unable to find any report stating why.
One theory floating around online is that
Elisa was murdered.
When the previously mentioned verified
websluethes member, smeinzer, was asked if he thought it was possible that
someone could have carried Lam’s body up the fire escape he had this to say:
“It
would take SO much strength to carry someone up that ladder. I am fairly
positive that someone would not be able to carry her up that way. The body
would have to have been attached to the attacker in some way because you need
both hands to climb the ladder (especially if trying to carry someone). I think
she either made her way up the fire escape ladder by herself, possibly while
being chased, or she was brought through the alarmed locked door by someone who
had a keycard.”
Some people entertain the possibility that
security, staff or another guest disposed of Elisa in the tank and that foul
play was involved.
The death was officially ruled as an
accident, but not everyone believes that this is the case.
Sony is allegedly in the process of making
a film based on the Lam case, titled “The bringing” -“Directed by Jeremy
Lovering. A horror story centered around a man investigating a mysterious death
at a hotel.” Originally the film was going to be directed by Nicolas Winding
Refn, who is probably most known for his film “Drive” with Ryan Gosling- a
movie that Elisa seemed to be a fan of according to her blog posts.
The customers of the Cecil inevitably sued, and the hotel has since re-branded itself as “Stay on Main”
So if you’re looking for a cheap place to
stay in downtown LA, maybe think twice before you stay on main.
The gardens of the Shrewsbury castle in England are
reportedly haunted by Shrewsbury’s answer to the infamous Blue beard, a specter
named “Bloody Jack”.
Centuries ago, back
when the ghost was the groundskeeper and a mortal man, he was known for proposing
to young women and girls who he would invite to his castle only to rape and
murder them.
According to local legend, he was arrested when the sister
of one of his victims searched the castle and found a wooden chest containing
the severed fingers and toes of every girl who had went missing in the area.
Bloody Jack was drawn, quartered and hanged for his crimes and as was customary
at the time, his severed head was put on a stick and displayed.
His spirit now spends eternity wandering the gardens of his
castle. Some visitors say they sometimes hear the bloodcurdling screams of girls
later accompanied by the vision of bloody Jack dragging a victim across the
property by a fistful of hair.
The remains of eighteen year old Paula Jean Oberbroeckling
were discovered four months after she had went missing in 1970, near the Cedar River, Otis
Road, Southeast Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Paula Jean worked at a department store as well as teaching
children with special needs and had recently graduated from high school.
Paula as a bridesmaid.
(from whathappenedtopaula.com)
Her decomposed body was found bound at the wrists and ankles,
clad in the blue night dress that she was wearing when she left her apartment in on July 11th 1970 earlier that year.
She was seen for the last time after telling her friend, Debbie Kellogg (who she shared the apartment with) that she would “Be right back” before getting into Debbie’s car and
driving off.
She took nothing and was barefoot when she
was found, but according to friends, she generally went out barefoot if running
a local errand.
That night she had been out on a date with her
boyfriend, Lonnie Bell. According to Bell they had an
argument that evening.
Oberbroeckling had one previously known high school
boyfriend, Robert Williams. It was unclear if she was still involved with him in any way.
The abandoned car was discovered two miles from her residence the following day. There was no signs of a struggle and the vehicle seemed to be voluntarily left.
(from whathappenedtopaula.com)
Her family suspects that Bell did not want to continue the
relationship. Bell was said to search for Oberbroeckling and check out any lead
or tip from the numerous prank calls to the missing girl’s family home- to no
avail. The nature of the interviews with Oberbroeckling’s parents suggests that
they didn’t like Lonnie Bell although her mother claimed she did.
The local authorities refused to accept the case as a
missing person’s case and rudely suggested that the girl had gone to a music
festival or took off on a road trip without informing anyone.
Family and
friends refused to entertain the idea, as they knew Paula Jean was very reliable
and punctual and would call ahead on the rare occasions that she’d be late- especially when it came to work.
The family contacted local journalists and claimed that none
of them were interested in a writing a story on the case.
Advanced decomposition meant that the cause of death was
inconclusive. It was possible that Oberbroeckling could have been strangled or poisoned
as these methods could not be ruled out at the stage her remains were found in.
There was no blood on her dress, no sign of damage from knife or gun. The
autopsy did state that there were no broken bones or trauma, but investigators claimed
they believed foul play was involved.
She was found curled around a steel pin in the ground. It is
unknown if this was her position at death or if she had lived longer and
perished due to the elements. Another theory from the police was that she had
been thrown from the top of the road and rolled down the steep hill, hitting
the steel pin and ended up concealed in the summer foliage (weather or not this story matches up with the autopsy findings remains to be seen)
The nearby sewage
treatment plant would have thrown off any passersby when it came to the scent of
human decomposition.
The material used to bind Oberbroeckling’s wrists (behind
her back) and ankles was described by the medical examiner performing the
autopsy (Earl F. Rose, M.D.) As “types
of flexible material, one having the appearance of plastic clothesline and the
other of cording.”
