I came across this picture online and just had to find out exactly why I was looking at a reclining man casually hanging himself. This guy was wild, check it out.
A Romanian criminologist and forensic
science professor named Nicolae Minovici routinely hanged himself in the name
of research for his paper “Study on hanging” published in the 1900s.
Using a series of ropes, knots and pulleys
he would auto-asphyxiate himself to experience both the physical and psychological
effects it had on the human body and mind. He would then report his findings
such as ringing in the ears, visual disturbances and other phenomena, and would
experiment on other test subjects by choking them and having them report their
experience too.
